IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FRENCH PUBLIC HEALTH LAW OF 9 AUGUST 2004
"Eating and exercising are two of life's pleasures and can help you and your family to stay in good health. By making the right choices, this will also help prevent certain illnesses. The national Health and Nutrition program provides nutritional recommendations to help you enjoy healthy eating.
It is important to choose a variety of foods from each food group daily. Each food group is essential in a balanced diet, but some should be consumed in moderation, whereas others need to be prioritised.
HOW TO GET A BALANCED DIET
- Eat at least five fruits or vegetables per day - raw, cooked, plain, prepared, fresh, frozen or tinned.
- Eat bread and cereals, potatoes and pulses with every meal according to your appetite (opt for wholewheat cereals where possible).
- Consume three dairy products per day (milk, yoghurt, cheese) and vary your choices.
- Eat meat, fish (and other seafood), or eggs once or twice a day, and alternate these foods during the week; remember to eat at least two portions of fish a week.
- Limit the amount of added fat in your diet (butter, oil, cream, etc.) and products that are high in fat (savoury snacks, pastries etc.).
- Limit sugar and products that are high in sugar (fizzy and sweetened drinks, sweets, chocolate, pastries, cream desserts etc.).
- Limit the amount of salt in your diet and opt for iodised salt.
- Drink plenty of water, both with meals and between meals.
- Do not drink more than the daily recommended alcohol limit for women (two alcoholic drinks) and men (three alcoholic drinks). One 100 ml glass of wine is the equivalent of half a pint of beer, or one 60 ml serving of 20% alcohol (such as port), or one 30 ml serving of 40-45% alcohol (such as whisky or pastis).
- Exercise every day; you need to do at least the equivalent of 30 minutes of fast walking a day (take the stairs instead of the lift, walk or cycle instead of driving where possible etc.)."
