I wouldn't touch these with a disinfected barge pole. Contains glucose-fructose syrup. Enough said...Brand's answer :
Thank you for your feedback on the Aptonia Cereal Bars.
Firstly I would like to reassure you that the main carbohydrate is pure glucose syrup and at 81 calories per bar with a mix of cereals and sugars the bar gives a quick energy boost with slower release.
It is true that the fruits are sweetened with glucose fructose syrup. I need to do some further research into the topic of glucose-fructose syrup as some of the information shows that the term can be used for corn syrup but also for other sweetners. I see that some evidence from the US that shows that high fructose corn syrup can suppress feeling full there is some confusion to the term being used in the UK where glucose-fructose syrup can be used for corn syrup but if I quote from an article in the Independent "And GlaxoSmithKline's Lucozade, which includes 24 per cent glucose-fructose syrup in its ingredients, said it "does not contain high-fructose corn syrup"". I will endeavour to check the details of the syrup that is used with our product manager.
Our cereal bars are designed for use in hiking and cycling and as such are not recommended for someone on a sedentary lifestyle. We take very seriously the case of obesity and I am constantly challenging our product managers for lower sugar, slower release carbs in our product that are adapted to the use by sports people.
