How to choose your energy bars

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR ENERGY BARS

All physical exercise burns off energy that must be replaced. Energy bars, as well as energy gels, cater for this need. Their composition is usually designed to meet the body's needs before, during or after exercise. Therefore, the choice of a bar will depend on the type of effort and/or the moment of consumption.

1. DURING THE RACE

During exercise, the nutritional objectives are to compensate for the water and energy losses. The bars fulfil these energy needs and should be combined with fluid intake. The choice of bar will depend on the length of the physical effort:

FOR A PHYSICAL EFFORT OF 1H TO 3H

You can opt for cereal bars that provide vitamin B1.

FOR A PHYSICAL EFFORT OF MORE THAN 3H

It is important to maintain stable energy reserves in preparation for a long physical effort. This can be done by consuming energy bars*, almond paste**, nougat*** or even fruit jellies****. Then, the choice will depend on the texture and flavour that you prefer. Indeed, a fruit jelly melts in the mouth and is consumed rapidly unlike an ultra energy bar or nougat that is more consistent and needs to be chewed. Similarly, if you prefer a savoury product to make a change from the sweet flavours during a long physical effort, opt for the savoury cereal bars. It's up to you.

Finally, all our bars for more than 3 hours of physical effort have an easy opening system. Whether you are cycling and running, you only need one hand to open and close them.

Note: For a physical effort lasting less than 1h, you don't need to take a bar with you, but make sure you are not leaving on an empty stomach if your last meal was a long time before your training session!

2. AFTER EXERCISE

During the recovery phase, we have many objectives: - Compensating for the water, energy and mineral losses; - Helping the muscles to recover. The protein bars***** combined with good hydration will fulfil these needs. They contain carbs to supplement energy reserves and proteins to promote muscle recovery.   *the energy bar gives you the energy needed thanks to its 340kcal/100g **the almond paste gives you the energy needed thanks to its 448kcal/100g ***the nougat gives you the energy needed thanks to its 447kcal/100g ****the fruit jelly gives you the energy needed thanks to its 331kcal/100g ***** the protein bar contains (among other elements) 48g of carbs and 28g of protein

Any physical effort involves energy expenditure that must be counterbalanced. Energy gels are composed of nutrients and micro-nutrients to satisfy the needs generated by effort. The goal is to delay the exhaustion of energy reserves and thus delay fatigue during effort.
