How to choose your elbow brace

The elbow is the joint connecting the upper arm and the forearm by joining three bones together: the radius, the ulna (cubitus) and the humerus. So we find the junction of three joints, and not just one. That's why it's important you look after this part of your body during sports activities.

What is an elbow brace?

An elbow brace is a piece of protective equipment that aims to support your elbow. To reduce the risk of injury during sports activity, the elbow brace provides compression and, depending on its additional accessories, comfort. This sports support is mainly used in sports where you use your arms a lot: muscle-building sports (such as cross-training), ball sports (such as tennis and badminton) and roller sports (such as skateboarding and hockey).

As well as its compression role, a good elbow brace should be comfortable.

Before making your choice, we recommend you also consult a doctor.

The preventive (or proprioceptive) elbow brace

Due to its compression effect, the proprioceptive elbow brace plays a genuine preventive role. The elbow brace helps your brain to recognise the spatial position and movement of your joint to stimulate and make it more alert.

To reduce the risk of injury when resuming an activity, we recommend using the Aptonia S200 elbow brace.

The flexible elbow brace

In order to protect an injured elbow, the flexible elbow brace offers support through stronger compression and a tightening system consisting of compression inserts. For this type of support, we recommend the Aptonia S300 elbow brace.

How to choose the right size elbow brace

To work out what size elbow brace you should choose, take a flexible tape measure, place it 5cm above the elbow and measure the circumference. If the measurement is between:

  • 21.5 and 23.5 cm: choose size 1
  • 23.5 and 26 cm: choose size 2
  • 26 and 28 cm: choose size 3
  • 28 and 30 cm: choose size 4
